POVERTY BY RACE
The rate of Hispanic Americans, living in poverty decreased the greatest among all groups, from 21.8 percent to 20.6 percent. The number of Hispanics in poverty however, remained unchanged at 9.2 million in 2006.

Non-Hispanic white Americans had the lowest poverty rate in 2006, remaining unchanged at 8.2 percent.

And for African Americans, the poverty rate remained unchanged in 2005 at 24.3 percent.

Asian Americans living in poverty also stayed statistically unchanged at 10.3 percent in 2006.
