St. Dominic's is a 4 year project we undertook to rehabilitate, the St. Anne' Priory residence behind St. Anne's Church in Fall River, MA. This 5 million dollar total rehabilitation of this old gothic style stone building was a quite and undertaking, and it is now a huge and beautiful Elderly Housing Complex named St. Dominic's. The creation of St. Dominic’s Apartments was a cooperation of the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, which funded most of the project through the city of Fall River, Community Action for Better Housing and Catholic Social Services.
St. Dominic's features eighteen 1 bedroom apartments, all approximately 600 - 800 square feet in size. All apartments have a brand new kitchen, living and dining space, large bathroom, and a large bedroom with huge storage and closet space. All apartments on all floors are handicapped accessible, and St. Dominic's also has off street parking. Many of the apartments also retain the unique architectural features of this old gothic building, with cupolas, rounded seating areas, huge dormers, vaulted ceilings, and one apartment even has the old vault. Tenants pay 30% of their income which includes utilities and the entire building has central heat and air conditioning. The house will also feature a live-in property manager, and Bristol Elder Services maintaining an office on site.
Each floor also has a small public common area, and public bathrooms. The basement has large areas for events, games, a laundry facility, and even a "banquet hall". St. Dominics is in a very busy central location of Fall River, within walking distance to the many shops and resturants of South Main Street and Broadway. It is also directly across the street from St. Anne's Hospital and attached to St. Anne's Church (you don't have to go outside to get to St. Anne's). St. Dominic's is also on a SRTA busline and Walmart, Shaw's, Stop and Shop, the Dartmouth and Swansea Mall, are all short rides away.
St. Dominic's currently has a very long waiting list, and is a 62 and older community who meet income eligibilty requirements, so apply early and before reaching 62.
