MANDATORY FALL RIVER DIOCESE SEX ABUSE PREVENTION TRAININGS Time: Every Tuesday, 5:00 p.m. PLEASE NOTE!! For the month of August 2010, our training dates are changing. We will only be offering training on August 10 and 31. The normal schedule of training every Tuesday will resume in September. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: Do I have to register or can I just show up? A: The OCP will gladly train as many employees as needed each week, but the size of the group dictates the amount of space that is needed for training. Since space is limited, we request that you call 24 hours in advance to register so that we can have the right room prepared for the training. We will need the name, school, and phone number of each trainee registering for the training. Q: What if I can’t get to the training right at 5:00? Can I be late? A: If you know that you will arrive late, please call the Office for Child Protection at 508-674-4681 to make arrangements to complete the training. It is possible to make up a few minutes of the video, but please understand that if you are going to be (or are for any reason) more than 15 minutes late, you will need to reschedule your training for another Tuesday. If you have questions, please contact the office. Q: How long does the training last? A: The training lasts approximately one and half hours from start to finish. That’s why it is important to be on time. If you have to be late, you will be required to stay after and watch the part of the video that was missed or complete paperwork that has to be done for you to have successfully completed the training. The paperwork is our only proof that you did attend. Q: What do we do at the training? A: The training starts with completing a CSS CORI form and signing in to prove attendance. Following the paperwork, a video will be shown, and there will be a short discussion time. Before you leave, you will receive a copy of the Abuse Prevention Policies and Procedures Handbook (a.k.a. the blue book) and an information sheet. In the blue book, you will have a copy of the Diocese’s Code of Conduct, for which you will be held accountable as an employee/volunteer of the Diocese. Q: Do I need to bring anything with me to the training? A: Please remember to bring a photo ID with you, such as a driver’s license or a passport. A copy will be made to prove that the person listed on the CORI is actually the person being trained. Your CORI form cannot be processed without it, and your ID will be returned to you at the end of the training. Q: Will I need to take notes? A: You will be given copies of all the pertinent information as you leave the class. There should be no need for notes, unless you wish to take them. Q: Is the training offered at any other location than CSS? A: The OCP does one large employee training at one of the schools each year, which was held in August of this year. Other than that, all other trainings are held at the Fall River Office only. Q: Will I need to attend this training again? A: At this time, each employee/volunteer only needs to attend the training once, but all school and parish volunteers must complete a new CORI every 12 months. All Diocesan employees must complete a new CORI every three years. Q: I have already filled out a CORI for the school. Why do I have to fill another one out for CSS? CSS is the Diocesan agent for clearing all employees for work in the Diocese. However, the schools must also show that they have cleared employees and any information that might be gained from the CORI cannot be shared between the schools and CSS. Therefore, each entity must do its own CORI to ensure compliance with state laws and Diocesan policies. If you have any further questions please contact: DEBORA JONES |
